Hi, my name is Maria Anamoto and I’m from Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Ventura County and today we are going to learn how to compare credit cards.
The best thing to do when you are trying to get a credit card is to make sure what is the need that you have for this credit card — what is your specific need why you are requesting that specific credit card, because that is the way that you will be selecting the credit cards that probably will work for you. Some examples of these are:
- If you are looking for balance draws that have a lower interest rate
- That you are looking for some rewards so you can accumulate points every time that you buy
- If you are looking for no paying any annual fees
- Or if you are looking to extend your credit limit
So, there are different factors that will influence how you are going to decide the best credit card for you. You can also compare because of the interest rates. If you are carrying a balance, and you are not going to be paying a balance off every 30 days, so the interest rate that they will charge you will be really, really important here.
So, it’s good if you can make a list of the things that you want to have in a credit card and then set up your priorities and based on that you can start comparing.
- You can compare with the offers that you receive in the mail
- Or you can go online
- Or you can check with your particular bank if they have any particular credit card that will fit your needs
- Another thing that I would suggest is that there are so many websites now that have these tools so that it’s going to be easier to compare for you
